Eligibility
Students aged between 15 - 18 years old inclusive who study hospitality up to and including level 2 at a secondary school or private training establishment are eligible to compete. The competitions have been developed for those students who are considering a career or further study in the hospitality industry. There is no cost for entry in the competition classes.
Competition classes are filled on a first in first served basis and are limited to 10 competitors per class. Extra heats may be added at the discretion of the organisers. Live kitchen classes are open to 3 entries per class, per school/PTE. The Secondary Schools Challenge is only open to students at seconday school. Schools can only enter one team into this class.
Please note the cut off date for registrations in your applicable region. It is important that you do register in time to allow us to organise appropriate heats if required and to enable us to distribute set timetables to entrants in advance of the competition day.
Prizes
All students who compete will receive a certificate of participation. At the conclusion of each challenge there will be medals awarded to the students who achieve marks of 70 or above in all categories. Certificates will be sent out to the medal winners reflecting their achievement.
The winners of the Secondary Schools Challenge will receive a prize of a return trip for the two winning students and their teacher to compete at a National Final to be held at Culinary Fare in Auckland in on 24 August 2010.
The overall winner of the front of house categories will also receive the prize of a return trip for themselves and their teacher to compete in a National Final at Culinary Fare in Auckland in on 24 August 2010. To be considered the overall winner in this category you must enter all three classes.
The winner will be the entrant with the highest accumulated points.
Prize giving will be held at the end of the competitions. Students must be in tidy hospitality uniform to receive any prizes as photos will be taken.
