2012 HSI Awards for Excellence in Training
28 October 2012, The Great Room, Langham Hotel Auckland
The Excellence in Training Awards 2012, hosted by entertainer Jackie Clarke, was held at Auckland’s Langham hotel and organised by the Hospitality Standards Institute (HSI), to recognise and celebrate hospitality training achievements across the country.
Winners
HSI Supreme Award for Excellence in Training:
McDonald’s (NZ) Ltd
McDonald’s employs 9500 staff across New Zealand, serving 1.3 million
customers every week in its restaurants. The company is one of New
Zealand’s largest employers, with more than 60 per cent of their
employees under the age of 21. Training and career development is
available to all staff. The fact that more than 50 per cent of
McDonald’s head office staff started as restaurant crew, including
Managing Director Patrick Wilson, is evidence of the development
opportunities that exist and are encouraged. From day one, employees
have a structured development programme, a clearly defined hospitality
career pathway with qualifications from the National Certificate in
Hospitality Quick Service Restaurants from Levels 2 to 4 to the Level 5
National Diploma in Hospitality, Operational Management. A total of 80
per cent of McDonald’s employees progress beyond their starting role as
crew, which means they achieve at least one of these qualifications.
