There is a variety of job roles in New Zealand's many cafes, bars and restaurants. For example, chefs, cooks, and food preparation workers prepare and cook many different kinds of foods ranging from soups, snacks, and salads to main dishes, sides, and desserts, in restaurants, cafés and bars, as well as a range of places that serve food.

Wherever customers buy food and drinks is termed the Food and Beverage (F&B) part of the hospitality industry. There is a wide variety of outlets - take-aways, fast food, cafés, ethnic restaurants, fine dining restaurants, clubs, pubs, taverns, hotels, reception lounges and conference venues.

Food and Beverage service staff can be waiters, bartenders, baristas, cocktail makers, restaurant or bar supervisors and managers.
