Cookery Traineeship

Who is it for?

The HSI Cookery Traineeship Programme is for anyone currently working in the Hospitality industry as a cook, who would like to work towards gaining a NZQA qualification.

You may be older than 21, and therefore ineligible for the Modern Apprenticeship scheme, or unable to complete all your training on-the-job.

What is it made up of?

The Traineeship leads to a National Certificate in Hospitality (Cookery) Level 3, with the ability in the future to work towards the level 4 qualification. It consists of three modules. You can do the training in two different ways. If available in your region, you can attend block courses based on the modules. At the end of each module you will have learned skills that you can take back and practice in your workplace, before being assessed on your competency in these at the beginning of the next module.

You will also have a verification log book that will be used by a supervisor or colleague in your workplace to ‘verify’ your progress.

The other option allows you to learn in your own workplaces at your own pace. Your workplace will need to be registered with HSI, and you will need access to an assessor. Talk to us about whats best for you.

The programme is practically based and covers basic and some advanced cookery skills, with some theory that is relevant to the workplace.
