1. Why do I need the LCQ?

From the 1st April 2006 all General Managers Certificate holders were required to hold the LCQ. The LCQ demonstrates that candidates hold “Recent and Relevant Training” in the Sale of Liquor Act and Host Responsibility and is required by the DLA before a General Managers Licence is granted or renewed.

 

2. How do I get the LCQ?

To obtain the LCQ Certificate, you will need to complete a training course consisting of two NZQA Unit Standards: 4646 and 16705. The LCQ Course is offered by many Training Providers throughout the country. You will need to contact one of these Training Providers to enroll on the course. 3. I have sat the LCQ course in the past. Do I need to re-sit the course?

So long as you have the LCQ Unit Standards 4646 and 16705 on your NZQA Record of Achievement you do not need to re-sit the LCQ. If you have misplaced your LCQ Certificate you can order a reprint Certificate by filling out the LCQ Reprint Form and sending this into HSI. If you have never received your LCQ Certificate you can obtain this by completing the LCQ Application Form.

 

4. Do my Unit Standards expire?

NZQA Unit Standards do not expire. If you have achieved these Unit Standards in the past, this is sufficient for gaining the LCQ Certificate.

 

5. How do I find out if I have the Unit Standards 4646 and 16705?

You can view the Unit Standards you have gained by contacting NZQA on 0800 697 296 and requesting a copy of your Record of Achievement. You can also view this online by logging on to www.nzqa.govt.nz

 

6. How do I get my General Managers Certificate?

The General Managers Certificate is obtained through the District Licensing Agency (DLA) who are a part of the Local City Council. You will need to contact the DLA to apply for your General Managers Certificate.

 

7. I am applying for/renewing my Club Managers Certificate. Do I need the LCQ?

The LCQ is not required for those renewing or applying for a Club Managers Certificate. The LCQ is only required when applying for a General Managers Certificate.

 

8. I have a conviction. Will this prevent me getting my General Managers Certificate?

The process for gaining your General Managers Certificate involves a Police Check. If you have any previous convictions this can affect your General Managers Licence being granted. It is advisable to contact your DLA to discuss this further.

 

9. I have a LCQ Certificate via Transition Test. Is this still accepted?

Yes. LCQ certificates gained via Transition Test prior to 31 March 2008 are still accepted.

 

10. I sat the Transition Test before 31 March 2008 but have not yet sent my application to HSI. Can I still do this?

No. The Liquor Licensing Agency (LLA) has advised that as of 31 March 2008 HSI are unable to process LCQ Applications via the Transition Test.

 

11. How do I get a reprint of my LCQ Certificate?

To get a copy of your LCQ Certificate you will need to fill out the LCQ Reprint Form.
