School refurbishments galore!
23 September 2009
Three schools have recently refurbished their food rooms, giving hospitality in their school, an exciting subject to study.
Ngaruawahia High School, Northern Southland College and Mackenzie College (Fairlie, South Canterbury) have remodelled their food rooms, which all look fantastic.
The re-models were done to accomodate the growing number of students studying hospitality at senior level.
While the work was being done to the Ngaruawahia food room, the students had to get by with using the microwaves until work was finished. So they completed the unit standard 13279 - Cook food using a microwave oven in a commercial kitchen. A great achievement and use of resources.
Steven Jack HSI Training Advisor was in attendance at the opening of the MacKenzie College in Canterbury food and fabric room. “This is such a great facility not only for the students but for the community and it is a credit to the school’s forward planning, HSI looks forward to continuing our great relationship with Mackenzie College.” Some of the equipment installed includes:
- A café layout with restaurant doors, moving outside to an eating area
- Commercial freezer, fridge, stove, dishwasher and coffee machine
- A touchless sensor wash trough to comply with hygiene regulations and standards
- A demonstration island with data projector with a video feed and computer access for teaching and cooking, where students can be critiqued.
